Greetings, Cadet. We╒ve heard about your performance at the Academy of Hot Shots and Trigger-Happy Fellows, and we put in a request for your assignment here. We╒ve forwarded this mission briefing to you to occupy your time while on your trip here.
We are in a hazardous situation. I╒ve personally received intelligence that an unknown force is grouping at the far reaches of Territory Space. Our lunar base is stationed on a natural satellite of the closest planet to the Territory border. We used to be the second closest, by the way. We needed a new person to control our defense systems, and you are the one chosen for the job.
Now for some mission particulars╔
╩
These are the Unnamed Threat. They come in two varieties, Cruel Blue and Mean Green. They attack in several different ways. Don╒t let them fly low enough to destroy the base!
If you are using SimpleText to scan this briefing, you can listen to a survivor╒s recording of a successful attack, by choosing ╥Play╙ under the ╥Sound╙ menu.
╩
These are your main line of defense. There is one on each side of the base, and each is controlled by a separate keypress on your control terminal. They will fire at where the crosshairs are currently pointing. Use the pointing device attached to your terminal to aim at your targets.
╩
This is a typical power generator. The more you have running, the faster you can fire and the more protected the cities are╔
╩
These are what you are trying to protect, the base╒s cities. They are immune to damage until their neighboring power generators are destroyed╔
╩
If an enemy is destroyed, it may leave a weapon enhancement behind. They don╒t seem to appreciate being shot. If you feel you need the enhancement, let it survive long enough to reach one of your defense stations. There are three kinds of enhancement:
- Laser: This instantly kills what╒s behind the crosshairs, but it requires precise targeting╔
- Rapid Fire: This allows you to fire constantly, but overuse can cause you to hit something best left alone╔
- Burst Shot: This causes your shots to explode in a cloud of destruction, but the explosion only covers a limited range╔
╩
To keep you from blanketing the sky with anti-spaceship fire, your foes will leave these nasty surprises behind. When shot, it will usually drop a cluster of bombs which can take out several generators and/or a city╔
╩
We╒ve gotten reports that this is known as a ╥Bonus Point Target╙╔
╩
And these are ╥Bonus Multipliers╙╔
╩
I╒ve personally heard rumors that, when shot, this can help you out in a pinch╔
Good Luck on your assignment, and may the Great Star Traveler bless us with survival.
